The fact that there are over a thousand of you subscribing to these here words is a fluke. I wrote a pithy note a while back and it caught fire. It’s since calmed down and is relegated to the trashbin of Substack history. It encapsulated my approach to this platform, specifically the Omniverse:
It will stay free.
I won’t post writing advice.
I won’t be posting how to own substack.
I will post mainly fiction.
I have remained true to my word and here we are. Now, the number of followers I have doesn’t mean a whole lot. It’s meaningful in that a given percentage of you read these and the higher the number, the higher the real number of readers is. I’ve never hit close to a thousand. And that’s okay. I would like to hit two thousand so that I can have about seven hundred readers. You, constant readers, are what keep me coming back here to post fiction, especially those of you who comment (which is around one to two percent).
You can’t force tapping into the zeitgeist unless you use the shotgun approach. What you can do is appeal to your constant readers to restack and recommend this here little slice of fried gold. So, if you like what you read, help me get to two k. More eyeballs on this ostensibly means more eyeballs on my other stuff which at least has a tip jar if you will.
BTW, if you want me to start providing a Ko-fi link in all my posts so you CAN tip me for solid stories here, I can do that. I don’t think that breaks rule number one, since you’ll never be required to pay for fiction in this publication.
Also, I’ll be starting to put audio fiction here too, if that trips your trigger.
